When clicking on the File Explorer (folder) icon, the File Explorer screen will pop up, and then immediately disappear.

This is caused by an issue with the Quick Access section of File Explorer.  To remedy this, hit the Windows Logo key, or click on the Windows Logo in the bottom right corner of the screen (in Windows 10)

Type This PC, and then click on the icon

This will open File Explorer while bypassing the Quick Access section.

Right click on Quick Access and choose Options

Hitting Clear will remove old entries, one of which was likely causing the problem.
